According to Variety, Natalie Portman is set to star in and produce “Pride and Prejudice and Zombies”, a movie based on the book written by Seth Grahame-Smith and Jane Austen.

The story is an expanded version of Jane Austen’s classic “Pride and Prejudice” but with the addition of a deadly pandemic that turns the undead into vicious killers.

Portman will play the role of Elizabeth Bennet, a heroine who’s on a mission to stop the zombies but ends up getting distracted by Mr. Darcy.

Portman will produce with Annette Savitch through her Handsome Charlie shingle. Savitch says about the film “Natalie and I are longtime passionate fans of Jane Austen’s books and this is a fresh, fun and thought-provoking way to approach her work. The idea of zombies running rampant in 19th Century England may sound odd, but it lends a modern sense of urgency to a well known love story.”

Portman recently finished filming “Hesher” and “Your Highness” and is currently filming “Black Swan’. All three films are due out next year.
